Roma captain Francesco Totti has jokingly claimed that he wants to end his footballing career, at the age of 45, with Romanian outfit Steaua Bucharest.
Symbolic Roma hero Totti made his debut for the club as a 16-year-old way back in 1993. More than 15 years later, Er Pupone is still the focal point of the side and a Roma team without Totti is almost unthinkable.
The 31-year-old is now the Giallorossi’s record appearance-maker and all-time highest goal-scorer, and he was one of the key members of the 2001 Scudetto success.
Totti has always been expected to see out the remainder of his club days at his beloved hometown club, yet it seems this may not necessarily be the case.
Roma recently took on Steaua Bucahrest in a friendly on Saturday night, losing 3-1 to the Romanian outfit. Totti, who did not play in the game due to injury, was offered a hero's welcome by the Romanian club’s supporters, and was so touched by their greetings that he even joked about ending his career with their club.
"Given the reception,” Totti told Steaua’s President George Becali, “when I am 45-years-old and ready to end my career, I could come here."
Steaua already have an Italian connection from the past, having been coached by current Catania boss Walter Zenga, but the chances of Totti, even at the age of 45, playing for them, seem rather slim.
