Jenas And Dawson Sign New Spurs Deals

Dawson, though not a first choice defender on paper, gains much match time at White Hart Lane while Jonathan Woodgate and captain Ledley King spend much time out with injuries.

The youngster has gone from strength to strength every season for the Lilywhites since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2005 and still has several years ahead of him. With Spurs' defence being one of their weaknesses following Ramos' appointment, his renewal of Dawson's contract sends a bold statement that he certainly is not blaming the 24-year-old.

Jenas was one of the better performers for Ramos, particularly in big games at the beginning of 2008, playing a key role in Spurs 5-1 (6-2 aggregate) mauling of local rivals Arsenal. The energetic midfielder earned a call-up to Fabio Capello's inaugural England squad - and scored - though he has since found life a little more difficult making it back into the team.

"The Club is delighted to announce that Jermaine Jenas and Michael Dawson have signed contract extensions that will see the pair at White Hart Lane until 2013," read a statement on Tottenham's official website.

"Jermaine, 25, joined in August 2005 from Newcastle United and has gone on to make 111 appearances, while contributing 21 goals from midfield. His form last season saw him win a recall to the England side and he was the first goalscorer of Fabio Capello's reign as national team manager.

"The 24-year-old Michael has now made 136 First Team appearances in our colours since joining from Nottingham Forest in January 2005, scoring three goals. The popular central defender, who has been named in a number of England squads, made 40 appearances last season."
