South Africa Back England 2018

England’s bid to host the 2018 World Cup has received a major shot in the arm with news that South Africa would support their campaign.

The two nations were rivals during the respective efforts to win the tender to host the next World Cup, in 2010, a battle that South Africa won.

However, the head of South Africa’s Football Association, Danny Jordaan, has thrown his support behind England’s bid to host the competition in ten years time, insisting that the nation are more fitting hosts than rivals such as Australia and Russia.

"We were bidding against England in 2006 and the strange thing is because of that we became very close with people at the FA," Jordaan said in The People.

"They haven't offered us specific help for this World Cup (2010), but I think they are now focusing on their bid for 2018 - and we will support them in that.

"England would be a great host for 2018. They have the history and tradition and an incredible passion amongst their supporters.

"I think many people would want to see England stage another World Cup."

Jordaan’s comments follow on from FIFA vice-president Jack Warner’s, with England’s pitch seemingly gaining support by the day.
