The special advisor to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has warned that it would be dangerous to sign Samuel Eto’o from Barcelona, as the Cameroonian would destroy the French club’s pay structure.
Bernard Lacombe delivered the warning in the wake of Lyon’s expressed interest in signing the Olympic Gold medallist from Barcelona.
On Monday, Eto’o’s agent, Joesp Maria Mesalles, announced that his client had been approached by OL.
It is thought that the 27-year-old would earn a sum in the region of €6million per season should he sign on at the Stade Gerland.
Such a deal, suggested Lacombe, would force Aulas to confront potential contractual issues from other players demanding parity with the new signing.
Eto’o is one of the transfer window’s hottest commodities, with clubs from Spain, England, Italy and Uzbekistan chasing his signature.
However, in the wake of Lacombe’s comments, it is unlikely that Eto’o will be playing with the Ligue 1 champions next season.
Lacombe told France Football: "Eto'o is just a dream. July 25 is not December 25, is it? We have to remain serious.
"A man like that earns 6millions euros a year. If we sign him, every other player at the club will go to the chairman's office to ask for a pay rise."
Lacombe confirmed that Diego Milito remains on the club’s radar; the Argentine has been linked with a move away from Real Zaragoza following their La Liga relegation.
He continued: "Indeed I talked about him with coach Claude Puel last week. But we won't rush. We have until August 31 to act."
