PAOK has secured one of the biggest signings in its history after Uruguay international and former Real Madrid defensive midfielder Pablo Garcia signed a two-year contract with the Thessaloniki club.
The 31 year-old former AC Milan player was mobbed by fanatical PAOK fans at the Thessaloniki International Airport in Macedonia when he arrived on Thursday, as the player emerged wearing a pinstriped PAOK baseball cap and a black-and-white scarf wrapped around his neck.
A statement on the club's official website read: “PAOK would like to announce that it has signed Uruguay international midfielder Pablo Garcia on a two-year contract.”
The free-transfer of Garcia follows the arrival on-loan of Panathinaikos defender Filippos Darlas, with centre-back Christos Melissis and attacker Lazaros Christodoulopoulos both joined the Athenian club.
The Uruguayan will link-up with Chile international Pablo Contreras and Bosnia and Herzegovina international Zlatan Muslimovic, who both received similar welcomes from adoring PAOK fans upon their respective arrivals to the airport.
In what has been a highly successful summer transfer season for the Double-Headed Eagle of the North, club president Theodoros Zagorakis and technical director Zisis Vryzas have managed to secure the signature of three relatively high-profile internationals.
One of those is Greece international goalkeeper Kostas Chalkias who has signed from rivals Aris Thessaloniki, despite the well-documented financial struggles and constraints of the club in recent years.
