PAOK And Pana Secure New Signings

Greek side PAOK Thessaloniki have completed the signing of Atalanta striker Zlatan Muslimovic after agreeing a transfer fee with the Serie A club estimated to be worth around €600,000, whilst Athenian giants Panathinaikos have signed Flamengo striker Rodrigo De Souza Cardoso for €3,000,000.

Muslimovic Deal

Following prolonged negotiations between PAOK and Atalanta, the Bosnia and Herzegovina international put pen to paper on a three year deal with one of the traditional powerhouses of Greek football.

An official statement on www.paokfc.gr read: “PAOK would like to announce that it has reached an agreement with Atalanta for the transfer of Zlatan Muslimovic. The Bosnian international eagerly arrived in Thessaloniki this afternoon with his manager Michel Mazen Moussalli and signed a three-year deal.”

The 27-year old enjoyed a brief spell at Udinese early in his career before going on to play for a number of Italian clubs, including Perugia, Messina, Parma and Atalanta.

Muslimovic has represented Bosnia and Herzegovina twelve times, scoring nine goals for his country and upon his arrival in Thessaloniki was greeted by adoring PAOK supporters who wrapped an iconic black-and-white scarf around the player’s neck.

Garcia Coup

PAOK president and Euro 2004-winning Greece captain Theodoros Zagorakis is also expected to welcome out-of-contract Real Madrid defensive midfielder Pablo Garcia to the club in the next few days.

Uruguay international Garcia has spent the last two seasons on loan from the Bernabeu, at Celta Vigo and most recently, Real Murcia. The 31-year old was recently released by the Madrid management and is reported to have agreed terms with PAOK.

Rodrigo To Wear Green

Meanwhile, newly-appointed Panathinaikos manager Hank Ten Cate has continued the Athenian club’s recruitment drive with the acquisition of Flamengo striker Rodrigo De Souza Cardoso.

The 26 year-old Brazil international was top goal-scorer during the 2006 ‘Campeonato Brasieleiro’ – the top flight of Brazilian football – whilst on-loan at Goiás Esporte Clube, with a total of 17 goals.

The former Vasco De Gama and CSKA Sofia striker has signed for The Greens after making 58 appearances and scoring 20 goals during his stay at Flamengo and links up with fellow Brazilians and new Panathinaikos signings Gilberto Silva, Silva Cleyton, Gabriel Rodrigues and Marcello Mattos (whose loan deal from Corinthians was made permanent).

The signing of Rodrigo follows a morale-boosting 5-1 friendly victory over Belgian club Charleroi, in which teenage sensation Sotiris Ninis starred for the Trifili ahead of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying round encounter with Georgian champions Dinamo Tbilisi in Athens on Wednesday.

There were contrasting fortunes for Pana’s Athenian rivals though, as AEK Athens – giving an opportunity to 22-year old Uruguayan trialist Frederico Perez - clawed their way back from 2-0 down to snatch a 2-2 draw with 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Greuther Fürth and Olympiakos Piraeus were thoroughly outplayed during their 2-0 loss to former England manager Steve McLaren’s Champions League-bound Dutch outfit FC Twente.
