Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Moutinho is edging closer to a move to Everton, after admitting that it is ‘his will’ for the deal to go through.
The 21-year-old has been agitating for a move away from the Portuguese giants, and Everton have moved into pole position to sign the Euro 2008 international.
It would represent a remarkable transfer coup for David Moyes’ side, as Moutinho is seen as one of the brightest prospects in world football.
Moutinho is desperate to seek a new challenge, and a Premier League move seems to be imminent.
However, a potential stumbling block for the deal would be Everton’s request to pay the reported £18million fee in instalments. This problem could be circumvented should Andy Johnson depart Goodison Park for a sizeable fee.
Moutinho confirmed that Everton have already had one advance knocked back by Sporting, but the club anticipates an improved offer in the coming days.
The young Sporting captain told Ojogo: “Everton already made a proposal, but Sporting did not accept it. We will now see what it happens in the next few days, but Sporting already knows my will, I have already transmitted it to the people.
“What is my will? With the reasons that I have, I want to leave Sporting. I hope that an agreement can be found and that a good solution arrives for both parties."
