Henrique Completes Barça Move; Loan To Follow

The 21-year-old Brazilian has long since been linked with a move to the blaugraa, but only today is such a switch set to take place.

The Palmeiras stopper arrived in Barcelona last night and is currently undergoing medical tests at the Hospital de Barcelona. At 18:30 local time he will then be transferred to the FC Barcelona Medical Services for final examinations.

Barça will pay €8m to the Brazilian club for the former Coritiba youth, with a further €2m payable should the blaugrana finish in the Champions League spots in the Primera this season.

Henrique, though, will be unable to aid his team in their initial drive towards Europe: instead he is to be loaned out to Bayer Leverkusen of the German Bundesliga.

While Barça are eager to strengthen their back line with youngsters after Lilian Thuram's departure and in light of certain others growing older, some have questioned the wisdom of such an expensive move for a player whose first team experience is limited.

However Henrique is aiming to prove his doubters wrong, having already fought his way into the full Brazil squad.

In any case the 6'1" defender will not be meeting up with his new teammates today, given that the vast majority of them are in Scotland with the Barça training camp.
