Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti made a surprise comment by eliminating city rivals AC Milan from the list of contenders for the Scudetto title next season.
The Argentinean international said that he expects more competition in the Serie A this time around after cruising to two comfortable titles in the past two seasons.
"I think Serie A will be even more balanced than last year. It certainly won't be easy, but we will fight to the end," Zanetti was quoted as saying by Calcio Italia magazine.
"I expect Roma, Juventus and Fiorentina to cause us problems. Roma are a side who are gaining real consistency, Juventus are building a solid squad and Fiorentina are led by a very intelligent tactician."
Zanetti's comments ruled 17-time winners AC Milan from the title race.
"It all depends on how much they manage to reinforce their side. If important players arrive, then I think they too can compete with us."
AC Milan finished the 2007-2008 Serie A season in fifth place, missing out on a UEFA Champions League spot.
