Suggestions in some quarters that Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari could be a target for Juventus are almost certainly wide of the mark.
On the one hand, Juventus president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli has confirmed that the Old Lady has concluded her summer transfer activity. On the other, Pompey manager Harry Redknapp is highly unlikely to consider selling fans' favourite Muntari.
Juventus were linked with a move for Liverpool's Xabi Alonso for weeks as they sought to strengthen their midfield. But they eventually settled on Christian Poulsen, abandoning their Alonso pursuit, and Gigli surely ruled out a rumoured £12million move for Muntari when he said after the Bianconeri clinched the Poulsen deal:
"We will not make any other buys. We have opted for the Dane because we have a very strong attack and needed a wall in the midfield." He added that unless "something extraordinary happens," Juve have concluded their summer transfer activity.
As for Muntari, he is not only popular with the fans at Fratton Park, but also played a key role in Redknapp's team last season, providing a dynamic presence in midfield as Pompey won the FA Cup.
And the Pompey boss recently stressed that he is interested only in adding to his squad, not selling players, as the South coast club prepare to embark on their first European adventure (in the Uefa Cup).
That suggests he would not contemplate letting Ghana international Muntari leave.
Redknapp reiterated: "We are always looking to improve and we will see where we go - we keep looking around."
