Estudiantes de La Plata captain, Juan Sebastian Veron, told the press that he thinks his side should have won their Copa Sudamericana tie with Independiente in normal time...
After ninety minutes of intense football, Estudiantes de La Plata went on to beat Independiente 5-4 on penalties, to advance to the next round of the Copa Sudamericana on Wednesday.
"We should have won in another way. I think that, other than their goal, Independiente hardly attacked us at all," stated Veron, who fired in Estudiantes' first penalty in the penalty shoot-out.
Veron admitted that "winning in this manner is typical of the history of the club" and he believes this victory will help motivate them for the following round of the competition where they will either meet Arsenal de Sarandi or Motagua of Honduras.
"Despite everything, we didn't suffer during the ninety minutes, because Independiente didn't attack us much, only in the goal. We were much deadlier in the first half," he concluded.
