D'Alessandro Returns To Argentina Squad

Former Real Zaragoza and San Lorenzo man Andres D'Alessandro won his last cap Paraguay in 2005, but has now surprisingly made the initial 19-man squad for Argentina's crucial impending double-header.

Argentina trail the Guaraníes in the South American leg of the race for South Africa 2010 and will look to haul themselves back to the summit with a home win over the Paraguayans, before putting whipping boys Peru to the sword four days later.

U23 coach Sergio Batista has done some groundwork for Basile, guiding the likes of Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano to Beijing gold ahead of the senior challenges.

However, fellow Olympian and Boca Juniors star Juan Roman Riquelme will have to wait. The Argentine Football Association have confirmed via their official website that, although the initial squad contains all foreign-based stars, a few domestic players could be added in the coming days, with former Villarreal man Riquelme on standby.

Beijing hero Angel Di Maria, who netted in the 1-0 triumph over plucky Nigeria, will make the step up to the Albicelestes squad proper.
