Former Brazilian international Savio has been revealed as Cypriot champions Anorthosis' latest signing, leaving Desportiva Capixaba without having played a game...
The winger made his name as a youngster at Real Madrid, playing an understated part in los Merengues' golden era either side of the millenium, winning three Champions League titles and a Primera trophy while at the club, as well as an Intercontinental Cup and European Super Cup.
He later left the European heavyweights but had further spells in Spain with Real Zaragoza and a brief period with Real Sociedad as well as Levante. He then returned to his native Brazil, but has already made a move back to Europe.
Savio arrives as the Cypriots Champions League third qualifying around against Greek giants, Olympiacos.
"I have experience of playing in big games and I still believe that I have the same pace and imagination when I'm playing," said the 34-year-old. "I will give everything so as to help my new club achieve their main target of qualifying for the Champions League group stage."
Though the odds are against Anorthosis making any further progress, overcoming Rapid Wien during the week to make it through to face Olympiacos was a shock in itself.
Savio was capped 44 times for Brazil between 1994 and 2000, scoring an impressive 17 goals.
