England manager Fabio Capello has compared Claudio Ranieri’s Juventus side to that of his own, and is convinced that the Bianconeri can make an impression in Serie A and on the continent this season.
Capello was in attendance to watch the Old Lady’s friendly with Manchester United at Old Trafford, and admitted that he came away with a positive impression of the Italian side.
The England coach was in charge at Juve for two seasons, before the club became involved in the calciopoli scandal, and believes that Ranieri’s side are now capable of competing again for major honours.
He told the press: “I admit, against Manchester, the Bianconeri made an impression on me. I saw a solid team against Manchester, with the ability to compete with the champions of Europe. In their attitude, they truly reminded me of my Juve.
“I left Old Trafford convinced that Ranieri’s squad can cause a lot of problems in Serie A and also the Champions League. They can resist all the teams in both competitions.”
Capello went on to laud the change in attitude of the Juve players. He stated that the team ‘know when to change skin’ and suggested that an added degree of aggression could help propel the team forward.
He continued: “It’s a very important thing (changing attitudes), on par with experience, to make in-roads in the Champions League.
“And no doubt, the old-guard want to make good in-roads in Europe. The anger, hunger for victory that comes after a year in B can be seen in every one of their attitudes. The lads deserve a big stroke of luck, and I would be happy to see it.”
